Fish Buddies back in the house! We had the best of gigs with TBWA\Helsinki’s dope creative lineup, who brought back the iconic, award-winning Fish Buddies (Kalakaverit) concept for K-Citymarket. This time our fishies are dropping a sick remix and throwing down some nods to hip-hop legends. Can you catch all the references? Get ready for K-Citymarket Kalakaverit Remix!

DESIGNING K-CITYMARKET KALAKAVERIT REMIX

This is the original Perch, a 2D animated character for the K-Citymarket Kalakaverit ad campaign.

The original Kalakaverit was a bit more fish & guitar type of a thing. This time Ahven (Perch, illustrated above) was ready for a Remix!

And boom! The transition is complete. Mc Perch in the house! Along with updated character design and props, the chalkboard background was also pimped with some fresh brand coloring.

In addition to the animated characters and hip hop beats, the ad also featured a variety of super delicious fish food images. Of course the real fish also drop a lyric or two. Bonkers!

PRE-PRODUCTION ON K-CITYMARKET KALAKAVERIT REMIX

As a standard part of our character animation process, we made an animatic for the K-Citymarket Kalakaverit Remix quite early in the pre-production stage. Storyboard images work as the foundation of the animatic. The animatic was iterated and adjusted as needed, and then acted as a guide for the final animation.
